Kawagoe Festival
This year's Kawagoe Festival had 19 floats. There are a total of 29 floats in the old castle town.
The floats are constructed so that they move up in two or three tiers, with gods or historical dolls placed at the top.
The highlight of this year is the first float of Ushiwakamaru (Minamoto no Yoshitsune) and his father-in-law Kawagoe Shigeyori (Nakahara-cho) in Motomachi 1-chome.
The group performed a "Hikkawase" concert in front of Yojuin Temple, where Shigeyori's grave and the memorial tablets of Yoshitsune and Gohime are located.
Shigeyori Kawagoe was a Kamakura samurai who ruled the Kawagoe area. His daughter, Gohime, married Minamoto no Yoshitsune and died in the Battle of Kinugawa in Hiraizumi Town, Iwate Prefecture.
He is said to have died together with Yoshitsune.
In the past, the two floats in the Kawagoe Festival would pass by separately in front of Yojuin Temple and make a bow, but
This year, Shigeyori's float has been repaired and will be participating in the festival for the first time in four years, and the town association that will be putting out Yoshitsune's float
We proposed a competition and it became a reality.
At Yojuin Temple, the memorial tablets of the three people - Kawagoe Shigeyori, Minamoto no Yoshitsune, and Gohime - were moved to a position where they could see the floats, allowing visitors to watch the performance.
This event will be held again next year, so if you missed it this year, you can see it again next year.
